The Tennis player"s best friend is his racquet. The first to make a racquet with strings was a gentleman named Scanio who in 1555 came up with this idea for a game that until then was played with wooden sticks with a little oval.
Until about 30 years ago most racquets were still made of wood, had the same small ovals and it was very unusual to see a club player hit top spins.Today, thanks to the technology of the modern racquets it"s quite normal to see a club player giving the ball all sorts of spins. In the photograph below "Pistol Pete" Sampras is up in the air ready for a killer smash on Centre Court at Wimbledon in 1996 with his Wilson Pro Staff 85,a racquet that he used until the end of his brilliant carreer.
